Only heirloom, open polinated crops are cultivated due to the Shawnee Town 1929 Museum standards. Volunteers prepare, plant, and maintain the garden using it as a teaching tool for metro area grade school programs.
On site is a farmstead with outbuildings typical of the time period: the original restored farmhouse, market shed, livestock barn, chicken house and brooding shed with chickens, toolshed, garden shed, outhouse, automobile garage, working well, smokehouse, a gravel, country-like road with plantings of wildflowers and blackberries on either side, a vegetable garden and small orchard.
