We also trimmed up tree limbs to get better air flow and more sun. Misc: We used free mulch around beds -- worked great! Very wet Summer Yellow Squash bloomed but never any yield Leeks rotted in the ground Eggplant was overtaken by bugs Chard was eaten by rabbits Tomatoes in pots were not successful. Late White-half Runners yield was great, but vines never matured fully. Rabbits enjoyed the greens and spinach. Daddy gave us a Blackberry Bush that we planted at the upper property corner.

Flower 37"5" x 7"4-13 -- Azaleas are beginning to put on blooms. 5-10 -- Azaleas on retaining wall are still blooming. All Azaleas have been beautiful this Spring.
Flower 27"5" x 7"4-13 -- Tulips are blooming; Iris are budding; Daffodills have finished blooming. 5-10 -- All gone, foliage is still green.
Garlic 25"3" x 9"3-17 -- Planted wild garlic from front entrance. Misc -- Garlic yield was great.
Kale 21' 3"1' 1" x 1' 5"3-10 -- Planted White Russian (50 days to maturity) and Red Ursa (65 days to maturity). 3-19 -- White Russian Kale has sprouted. 3-22 -- Red Ursa Kale is sprouting. 4-13 -- Both varieties of Kale are up. 5-10 -- Both varieties look great. 9-16 -- Kale looks beautiful.
Kohlrabi 29"7" x 11"4-13 -- Planted Kohlrabi Early White Vienna 4-22 -- Little seedlings are coming up. 5-10 -- Plants are still tiny. 9-16 -- Will begin harvesting end of week.
Leek 77"5" x 11"3-10 -- Leeks planted last Fall are looking good. Have already harvested one. 4-13 -- Leeks are ready to begin harvesting. 4-23 -- Harvested a beautiful Leek. 5-10 -- Leeks are beginning to send up scapes. Misc -- Leeks must have rotted in the ground due to rain.
Lemon Balm 11' 11"1' 11" x 1' 11"4-13 -- Planted Lemon Balm Melissa Officianalis (90 days).
Lettuce (Leaf) 13"3" x 5"3-10 -- Planted Black Seeded Simpson (45 days to maturity), Parris Island COS, and Romaine Paris Island (65 - 85 days to maturity). 3-22 -- Black Seeded Simpson is sprouting. 4-13 -- All lettuces are up except Romaine Paris Island. 4-21 -- Romaine Paris Island is still not up. 5-10 -- I believe something (maybe baby rabbits) is eating on the Spinach.
Marigold 47"7" x 7"4-13 -- Self-seeded Marigolds are beginning to come up. 4-22 -- Marigolds are putting on layers of leaves. 5-10 Will transplant Marigolds next week.
Marjoram 17"5" x 9"3-27 -- Marjoram is looking good after winter. 4-13 -- Marjoram is really filling out and looking good.
Mint 17"5" x 9"4-21 -- Bought Ornage Mint for deck hanging basket 4-24 -- Have been using the Orange Mint with tea bags for brewing. 5-10 -- Orange Mint is beginning to send out runners.
Okra 21' 7"1' 5" x 1' 11"4-13 -- Planted Okra Star of David (75-80 days). 5-10 -- Okra has nice first leaves. 9-16 -- Okra continues to yield.
Onions (Green) 23"3" x 3"3-10 -- Planted Yellow Granex given to us by Dad. 4-13 -- Onions are looking good. 5-10 -- Onions are beginning to send up scapes.
Oregano 17"5" x 9"3-10 -- Oregano survived the winter.' 4-13 -- Oregano is looking good.
Parsley 25"3" x 9"3-10 -- Parsley looks pretty good (need to plant fresh). 4-13 -- Parsley looks good; will need to plant fresh seed or plants soon. 4-13 -- Planted Single Italian Plain-Leafed and Extra Curled Dwarf. 5-10 -- Last of the Parsley seeds have sprouted.
Peas 43"3" x 7"3-10 -- Planted Blauschokker Shelling Pea (68 days to maturity), Sugar Ann Snap Pea (75 days to maturity), Green Arrow Shelling Pea (70 days to maturity). 3-22 -- Peas are beginning to sprout. 4-13 -- All varieties of peas are up. 4-21 -- Staked peas. 5-10 -- Peas are running. Misc -- Peas were beautiful.
Pepper 11' 1"11" x 1' 3"4-13 -- Planted Healthy Pepper (70-75 days) and Sweet Chocolate (58-86 days). 5-10 -- Pepper plants look great. 9-16 -- One Chocolate Pepper plant left. Misc -- Pepper yield was good.
Radish 23"3" x 7"3-10 -- Planted Early scarlet Globe (20 - 30 days to maturity), Cherry Belle (21 - 25 days to maturity), Sparkler. 3-19 -- Radish seeds have sprouted. 4-13 -- All varieties of Radish are up and ready to be thinned. 4-13 -- Thinned radishes; gave some to Norm Wojcik and Kristina Culberson. 5-10 -- Cherry Belle radish was first to mature. Misc -- Had a few more radishes this year than ever before.
Rhubarb 12' 11"2' 11" x 2' 11"4-13 -- Planted Rhubarb tubors in hanging basket until their bed is read. 9-16 -- Only one Rhubarb plant survived.
Rosemary 27"7" x 7"3-10 -- Rosemary survived and looks good. 4-13 -- Rosemary is full and looks realy good.
Sage 111"11" x 1' 3"3-10 -- Sage survived and looks good. 4-13 -- Sage is filling out and looks good.
Sorrel 111"11" x 11"3-10 -- Planted French Sorrel (60 days to maturity). 4-13 -- French Sorrel has sprouted. 5-10 -- Harvested first of the Sorrel. 9-16 -- Sorrel still looks good.
Spinach 17"5" x 11"3-10 -- Planted Bloomsdale Long-Standing (48 days to maturity). 3-22 -- Bloomsdale Long-Standing has begin to sprout. 4-13 -- Spinach is beginning to "leaf". 5-10 -- Bloomsdale is looking ragged; think rabbits may be mumching.
Squash (Summer) 11' 11"1' 11" x 1' 11"4-13 -- Planted Yellow Crookneck. 4-21 -- Yellow Crookneck is still not up. 5-10 -- Yellow Squash is up and looking good. Misc -- Did not get any yield from plants.
Strawberry 21' 7"1' 5" x 1' 11"3-10 -- Divided and transplanted plants to larger bed. 4-13 -- Plants are still alive and with a few blooms. Dressed the bed with straw. 5-10 -- Berries are beginning to hang. This weekend is Strawberry Festival in Dayton 9-16 -- Berry plants look great; are beginning to put on runners.
Swiss Chard 11' 1"11" x 1' 3"3-10 -- Planted Fordhook Giant (60 days to maturity). 3-22 -- Fordhook Giant has begun to sprout. 4-13 -- Chard is looking good. 5-10 -- Chard is yummy. Misc -- Chard ended up feeding the rabbits more than us.

Thyme 111"11" x 1' 3"4-21 -- Bought Thyme for deck hanging basket 5-10 -- Thyme looks great.
Tomato (Small) 71' 7"1' 5" x 1' 11"4-13 -- Planted Early Cherry (55 days), Peacevine (75 days), Cosmonaut Volkov (72 days), Cherokee Purple (85 days), and Beaverlodge Slicer (55 days). All in large pots. 4-21 -- Avery bought 4 Burpee Better Boy plants at Ace Hardware 5-10 -- Some varieties have begun to bloom. 9-16 -- Two Tomato plants remain; nice yield. Potted plants were not as successful.
Turnip 27"5" x 11"3-10 -- Planted Seven Top . 3-27 -- Turnip Greens have not yet sprouted. 4-13 -- Seeds have never sprouted.
Zucchini 11' 11"1' 11" x 1' 11"4-13 -- Planted Dark Star Zucchini (50 days). 4-21 -- Tiny plants are up. 5-10 -- Plants look great!! Misc -- Plants yielded maybe 8 Zucchini.
